Response of multiple mountain ecosystem services on environmental gradients: How to respond, and where should be priority conservation?

Yuyang Yu et al.

Summary: This study focused on the spatial changes of ecosystem services, trade-offs, and optimal protection areas selection in the Qinling-Daba Mountain, Qinling Mountain and Daba Mountain of China based on simulated ecosystem services from 2000 to 2015. Results showed that net primary production, soil conservation, and habitat quality increased with higher altitude and vegetation cover fraction, while water yield and grain production decreased. The combination of ecosystem services and priority conservation areas played a significant role in the management of the Qinling-Daba Mountain, providing meaningful reference for the selection of nature reserves.

Spatiotemporal changes in ecosystem services in the conservation priorities of the southern hill and mountain belt, China

Shuai Ma et al.

Summary: By balancing ecosystem services, conservation priorities for water yield, soil conservation, habitat quality, carbon storage, and ecological recreation were identified, with their conservation efficiencies consistently greater than 1 from 2000 to 2015. The implementation of conservation programs and increased rainfall have improved ecosystem services, highlighting the significance for regional ecological and environmental protection.

Maximising the bene fi ts of regulatory ecosystem services via spatial optimisation

Lu Zhang et al.

Summary: A study used a multi-objective optimization method to design a conservation network that maximizes the benefits of two regulatory ecosystem services in the Qinling Mountains of China, suggesting that delivery values of ecosystem services should be selected as a key protection proxy.

Prioritizing key biodiversity areas for conservation based on threats and ecosystem services using participatory and GIS-based modeling in Chindwin River Basin, Myanmar

Manish Shrestha et al.

Summary: This study assessed the biodiversity and ecosystem services in the Chindwin River Basin, finding that the main threats come from mining, logging, dam construction, and agriculture, with the northern CRB demonstrating the highest level of ecosystem services. Overall, 87% of KBAs provide a high degree of ecosystem services. The results of this study provide a strategic focus for preparing an environment conservation strategy and action plan for the CRB in Myanmar.

Integrating constraint effects among ecosystem services and drivers on seasonal scales into management practices

Shengkun Li et al.

Summary: This study evaluated three ecosystem services in the Xilingol grassland of China, finding substantial seasonal variations in ecosystem service supply and quantifying relationships between different ecosystem services in different seasons. Results showed exponential constraint effects between NPP and SLwind, logarithmic constraint effects between SLwater and SLwind, and changes in the hump-shaped constraint effects between NPP and SLwater.
