Chemical and toxicological evaluation along with unprecedented transformation products during photolysis and heterogeneous photocatalysis of chloramphenicol in different aqueous matrices

Eduardo O. Marson et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that solar photocatalysis is more cost-effective and beneficial for the degradation of chloramphenicol (CAP) in wastewater treatment compared to photocatalysis under black light. Transformation products (TPs) generated during photolysis and heterogeneous photocatalysis mainly formed through the preferential attack of HO(center dot) on the aromatic ring and alpha-carbon.

Surface acidity and basicity of Mg/Al hydrotalcite for 2, 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid degradation with ozone: Mineralization, mechanism, and implications to practical water treatment

Xike Tian et al.

Summary: The Mg/Al hydrotalcite was used as a heterogeneous ozonation catalyst and effectively degraded 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid with a high COD removal rate. The surface acidity and basity are responsible for the excellent ozonation activity of Mg/Al HT, making it a promising alternative in water treatment.

Catalytic ozonation of iohexol with α-Fe0.9Mn0.1OOH in water: Efficiency, degradation mechanism and toxicity evaluation

Pengwei Yan et al.

Summary: Catalytic ozonation with alpha-Fe0.9Mn0.1OOH as the catalyst can significantly enhance the degradation of Iohexol, promoting the removal and mineralization of dissolved organic carbon in water. Additionally, higher concentrations of Iohexol have adverse effects on the survival, hatching, and movement behavior of zebrafish embryos and larvae.

Degradation of sulfamethoxazole by ozonation combined with ionizing radiation

Hai Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that ozone and ionizing radiation could effectively degrade SMX, but had limited mineralization capabilities when used individually. However, the combination of ozone and radiation processes significantly enhanced the mineralization of SMX, showing promising application prospects in treating wastewater contaminated with antibiotics.

Surface dual redox cycles of Mn(III)/Mn(IV) and Cu(I)/Cu(II) for heterogeneous peroxymonosulfate activation to degrade diclofenac: Performance, mechanism and toxicity assessment

Junlei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study designed Mn3O4/CuBi2O4 with dual redox cycles of Mn(III)/Mn(IV) and Cu(I)/Cu(II) to efficiently degrade and mineralize diclofenac sodium (DCF). The activation mechanism of PMS by Mn3O4/CuBi2O4 was proposed, and possible degradation pathways of DCF were suggested based on detected degraded products and toxicity evaluation results. This work may be useful for developing stronger heterogeneous activators of PMS for more efficient wastewater purification.
