Microscopic Methods for Identification of Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria from Various Habitats

Ivan Kushkevych et al.

Summary: This paper explores microscopic methods for identifying sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), discussing their presence in various habitats and the techniques used for their detection. It also highlights the economic and health implications of SRB in industries and human microbiota, emphasizing the importance of methods for detecting these microorganisms, including molecular and fluorescence techniques.

Characterization of microbiological influence corrosion for API 5L X46 pipeline by sulphate-reducing bacteria (SRB)

Kadhim Finteel Al-Sultani et al.

Summary: The microbiological corrosion behavior of API 5L X46 low steel taken from a damaged petroleum transporting pipeline in Babylon, Iraq was investigated in this study. The presence of sulfide reducing bacteria Desulfovibrio sp was confirmed through analysis, and it was found that the A medium had a higher percentage of weight loss compared to the B medium.SEM and EDS examination showed the presence of sulfide bacteria in specimens grown in the A medium, while the B medium had a different surface nature due to the absence of bacteria. X-ray diffraction tests revealed different corrosion products in the two mediums, with the A medium containing compounds associated with sulfur (FeS) and the B medium showing compounds like FeNO3, possibly from the agricultural area's interaction with minerals or pest control measures.
