Ischemic Stroke With Atrial Fibrillation Characteristics and Time Trends 2006 to 2017 in the Dijon Stroke Registry

Amelie Gabet et al.

Summary: The prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) among patients with ischemic stroke (IS) is increasing, with more disabilities and higher initial severity in AF patients. There is an increase in age-adjusted AF prevalence in IS patients, especially in men aged 65 to 74 years and women aged >= 85 years, and a decrease in women aged 65 to 74 years. The use of oral anticoagulant treatment for AF has increased, but there is still underuse of this treatment.

Summary: Various P-wave indices, such as P-wave axis, P-terminal force, P-wave dispersion, and P-wave voltage, reflect abnormalities in atrial conduction and are associated with the risk of developing atrial fibrillation and stroke.
