Catalytic ErevCrev′ mechanism at cylindrical wire electrodes: Theory of controlled-potential transients assuming DO = DR, and highly accurate computation of chronoamperograms and cyclic voltammograms

L. K. Bieniasz

Summary: This paper develops a general theory for large-signal controlled-potential experiments for the catalytic ErevCrev ' mechanism at cylindrical wire electrodes, with numerical procedures implemented for computing special functions related to chronoamperometric and cyclic voltammetric currents. The procedures are fast, accurate, and can be useful for validating digital simulation methods for electrochemistry and analyzing experimental data.

Analytical solutions for the diffusive mass transfer at cylindrical and hollow-cylindrical electrodes with reflective and transmissive boundary conditions

Tim Tichter et al.

Summary: The paper derives analytical solutions for cylindrical and hollow-cylindrical electrodes with reflective and transmissive boundaries using Laplace transformation techniques, as well as explicit equations for concentration profiles of a Cottrellian potential step experiment. These expressions are given in terms of infinite series involving Bessel functions, and it is shown that computing only a few terms of these series is sufficient for accurate calculation of the desired time-dependent mass-transfer function or current. This method renders the numerical inversion of Laplace transformations obsolete and provides a mathematical supplement to the recent theory.

Theory and highly accurate computation of nonlimiting chronoamperometric currents for the ErevCirr reaction mechanism at cylindrical wire electrodes

L. K. Bieniasz

Summary: The theory of single potential step chronoamperometry for the ErevCirr reaction mechanism involving reversible charge transfer and an (pseudo-) first order irreversible homogeneous follow-up chemical reactions at a cylindrical wire electrode has not been previously considered in literature, except for fragmentary results. A new theory is presented in this paper, with numerical procedures elaborated and implemented in C++ to efficiently compute a special trivariate function to describe nonlimiting Faradaic current. The effects of electrode curvature and homogeneous reaction rate constant on the current are briefly investigated and discussed using the freely available code for the procedures.

NONLINEAR TRANSIENT REACTION-DIFFUSION PROBLEM FROM ELECTROANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY

Michael Vynnycky et al.

Summary: An analytical and numerical investigation was conducted on a nonlinear reaction-diffusion partial differential equation in models of transient controlled-potential experiments in electroanalytical chemistry, aiming to determine the relationship between the concentration of a chemical species and its flux at a reacting electrode. It was found that a known relation for the steady-state case could be used in a singular perturbation expansion for the time-dependent case, but encountering a phenomenon akin to switchbacking when trying to determine the second term to extend the validity of the solution.
