Recent Progress on the Alloy-Based Anode for Sodium-Ion Batteries and Potassium-Ion Batteries

Keming Song et al.

Summary: High-energy batteries with low cost are urgently needed for large-scale energy storage systems. Alloy-based anodes for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) and potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) show great potential, but further improvements are necessary for long lifetime and high energy density. This study summarizes the latest progress in alloy-based anodes for SIBs and PIBs, discussing material designs and future research prospects.

Manipulating the Solvation Structure of Nonflammable Electrolyte and Interface to Enable Unprecedented Stability of Graphite Anodes beyond 2 Years for Safe Potassium-Ion Batteries

Sailin Liu et al.

Summary: This study presents a nonflammable, moderate-concentration electrolyte highly compatible with graphite anodes that exhibits exceptional cycling stability. The stability of the electrolyte is attributed to the nearly 100% solvation of TMP molecules with K+ cations and the formation of a F-rich solid electrolyte interphase. The findings highlight the importance of electrolyte-interface compatibility and offer new opportunities for designing safe and practical PIBs.

Embedding FeS nanodots into carbon nanosheets to improve the electrochemical performance of anode in potassium ion batteries

Zhanheng Yan et al.

Summary: Potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) are considered a promising alternative to Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to their low cost and abundant potassium resources. FeS@SPC structure is beneficial for potassium-ion storage, as it helps reduce agglomeration and volume expansion of FeS, resulting in improved electrochemical performance.

Co-construction of sulfur vacancies and carbon confinement in V5S8/CNFs to induce an ultra-stable performance for half/full sodium-ion and potassium-ion batteries

Lihong Xu et al.

Summary: The anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) and potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) are challenging to construct with high energy and long lifespan. Sulfur-defective vanadium sulfide/carbon fiber composites designed through a facile electrospinning method exhibit excellent storage performance and long-term cycling stability for both SIBs and PIBs. The architecture of the materials provides short-range channels, abundant adsorption sites, and enlarged interlayer spacings, resulting in reversible ion storage with low energy barriers and long cycling characteristics.
