Green Prussian Blue Analogues as Peroxidase Mimetics for Amperometric Sensing and Biosensing

Galina Z. Gayda et al.

Summary: Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) are artificial enzymes with peroxidase-like activity that have high potential for applications in various fields. This study describes the green synthesis of PO-like PBAs using oxido-reductase flavocytochrome b(2) and the development of biosensors using synthesized hexacyanoferrates (HCFs). Among the synthesized HCFs, gCuHCF showed the highest efficiency as a PO mimetic and was used for the development of a highly sensitive and selective biosensor for glucose oxidase detection in fruit juices.

Bis(2,2′-bipyridil)Copper(II) Chloride Complex: Tyrosinase Biomimetic Catalyst or Redox Mediator?

Milan Sys et al.

Summary: This study reports the construction of amperometric sensors based on screen-printed carbon electrodes covered with thin layers of carbon nanomaterials, serving as amplifiers and containing [Cu(bipy)(2)Cl]Cl center dot 5H(2)O complex. The sensors were studied for their performance and biomimetic activity towards dopamine and serotonin, with important parameters such as working potential, flow rate, and pH optimized. The mechanism of catalytic activity was explained and experimentally confirmed, shedding light on the role of hydrogen peroxide and addressing the question of whether the complex can be considered a tyrosinase biomimetic catalyst or only a redox mediator.

Improved non-enzymatic H2O2 sensors using highly electroactive cobalt hexacyanoferrate nanostructures prepared through EDTA chelation route

Ramu Banavath et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a method for synthesizing Cobalt Hexacyanoferrate (CoHCF) nanostructures with controlled size, shape, and structure through nucleation rate control using the Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid (EDTA) chelation strategy. By varying the pH of the EDTA solution, differences in the chemical and electronic structures of the CoHCF nanostructures were achieved and confirmed through characterization. The improved electrochemical activity and charge transfer ability of the CoHCF compounds were attributed to an increase in electroactive sites and access to those sites due to enhanced specific surface area and pore volume of the material.
