Eugenol encapsulation into conventional liposomes and chitosan-coated liposomes: A comparative study

Chitosan-Coating Effect on the Characteristics of Liposomes: A Focus on Bioactive Compounds and Essential Oils: A Review

Summary: Chitosomes, formed by modifying liposomal surfaces with polymeric layers, show improved stability, sustained drug release, and enhanced drug penetration compared to conventional liposomes. The encapsulation of chitosan or its derivatives on liposomes improves stability and drug release, while alternative assembly of polyelectrolytes further enhances liposomal characteristics. Chitosomes can offer targeted delivery and boost antimicrobial efficacy of essential oils, overcoming drawbacks related to their chemical properties.
