Elastic wave propagation, scattering and localization in layered phononic crystals with arrays of strip-like cracks

Summary: In this study, the scattering of plane elastic waves by multiple periodic arrays of interface strip-like cracks is investigated using the boundary integral equation method. It is demonstrated that introducing interface cracks can result in the formation of additional band-gaps and pass-bands in a layered phononic crystal. The influences of crack positions and widths on wave transmission are studied and compared for several lattices, revealing the potential formation of extra band-gaps and pass-bands.

Manipulation of the guided wave propagation in multilayered phononic plates by introducing interface delaminations

Summary: This paper investigates the manipulation of guided elastic waves in periodically multilayered elastic plates (PMEPs) through introducing interfacial delaminations. The presence of periodic array of interfacial delaminations (PAIDs) can significantly increase frequency ranges of band-gaps and generate extra band-gaps, especially in the low-frequency ranges. Additionally, the presence of PAIDs can widen the frequency ranges where guided waves can only propagate with a single wave mode.
