Hydrogen Wettability of Sandstone Reservoirs: Implications for Hydrogen Geo-Storage

Stefan Iglauer et al.

Summary: This study measured the wettability parameter of hydrogen with rocks under various geo-storage conditions, finding that in a deep sandstone aquifer, the rock (quartz) exhibited weakly water-wet or intermediate-wet characteristics. The research also showed that increasing pressure, temperature, and organic surface concentration can enhance hydrogen wettability. Overall, this study provides fundamental data for the implementation of a future hydrogen economy on an industrial scale.

CO2-wettability reversal of cap-rock by alumina nanofluid: Implications for CO2 geo-storage

Muhammad Ali et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of different alkyl chain organic acids on the wettability of mica muscovite over time, as well as how this impact can be reversed by nanofluid priming. Results showed that after a year of aging, mica substrates lost their water-wetness rapidly, but this effect was significantly reduced by 0.25 wt% alumina nanoparticles, which irreversibly adsorbed on the mica substrates. This reversal of wettability could potentially enhance containment security and CO2 structural trapping.

Effect of humic acid on CO2-wettability in sandstone formation

Mujahid Ali et al.

Summary: The study found that humic acid significantly alters rock wettability from water-wet to CO2-wet, impacting CO2 storage capacity. Increases in pressure, temperature, and salinity also contribute to this effect. Therefore, accounting for these humic acid concentrations is vital in reducing risks in storage projects.

Impact of a novel biosynthesized nanocomposite (SiO2@Montmorilant@Xanthan) on wettability shift and interfacial tension: Applications for enhanced oil recovery

Mohammad Javad Nazarahari et al.

Summary: Nanoparticles play a crucial role in enhanced oil recovery by influencing wettability, reducing interfacial tension, and oil viscosity. This study presents the biosynthesis, characterization, and application of a novel nanocomposite, demonstrating that optimal concentrations of nanosuspensions can effectively improve interfacial properties and increase secondary and tertiary oil recovery in sandstone and carbonate reservoir rocks.
