Functionalized carbon dots on TiO2 for perovskite photovoltaics and stable photoanodes for water splitting

A. Anson-Casaos et al.

Summary: Various types of carbon dots synthesized using different methods show improved performance in photovoltaics and photoelectrochemical water splitting. Nitrogen carbon dots increase the open circuit voltage of perovskite solar cells, while thiol-functionalized and butyl chain-functionalized carbon dots exhibit better photocurrent in water splitting. The modified electrode is stable under continuous operation, with improved incident photon to current conversion efficiency.

In-situ self-assembly construction of hollow tubular g-C3N4 isotype heterojunction for enhanced visible-light photocatalysis: Experiments and theories

Qinghua Liang et al.

Summary: S doping in a highly reactive hollow tubular g-C3N4 isotype heterojunction (SCN-CN) enhances visible light absorption and directs the transfer of electrons and holes. The tubular structure of SCN-CN facilitates electron transfer in the longitudinal direction, reducing charge carrier recombination. Experimental and theoretical studies were conducted to analyze the optical properties, electronic structure, and electron transfer of SCN-CN.

Ruiying Yang et al.

Summary: An ultrasensitive and selective photoelectrochemical biosensor with cathodic background signal was developed for the detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) using innovative plasmonic TiO2@Au nanoparticles/CdS quantum dots photocurrent-direction switching system. The biosensor showed remarkable sensitivity with a low limit of detection and high-efficiency anti-interference ability, indicating great potentials in bioanalysis and disease diagnosis.

Nitrogen doping-mediated oxygen vacancies enhancing co-catalyst-free solar photocatalytic H2 production activity in anatase TiO2 nanosheet assembly

Mohamed Esmat et al.

Summary: Introducing oxygen vacancies (Vo) into TiO2 photocatalyst along with N doping is proposed as an alternative strategy for achieving efficient co-catalyst-free solar photocatalytic activity under less extreme conditions. The synthesized material exhibits good co-catalyst-free solar photocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution via water splitting under irradiation with simulated solar light, showing higher efficiency compared to typical co-catalyst-free defective TiO2 materials. The introduced Vo is believed to play a role in facilitating charge separation and improving photocatalytic efficiency.
