Recent research advances of self-discharge in supercapacitors: Mechanisms and suppressing strategies

Kunlun Liu et al.

Summary: Supercapacitors are promising energy storage devices in various fields, but the issue of self-discharge poses a challenge to their practical utilization. While complete elimination of self-discharge may not be achievable, efforts to suppress it through electrode modification, electrolyte modulation, and separator tuning have been made.

Microsupercapacitor with a 500 nm gap between MXene/CNT electrodes

Eunji Kim et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for fabricating on-chip symmetric MSCs with coplanar interdigitated electrodes using focused-ion-beam process and carbon nanotube electrodes. The micro supercapacitors produced have high areal capacitance with narrow gaps between electrode fingers, while electron beam lithography and photolithography are utilized to create ultra-small footprint devices.

Temperature-controlled in situ synthesized carbon nanotube-protected vanadium phosphate particle-anchored electrospun carbon nanofibers for high energy density symmetric supercapacitors

Hyoju Kim et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel composite material as a negative electrode material with high capacitance and outstanding stability for energy storage applications. The material exhibited the highest capacitance at a current density of 0.66A g(-1) and exceptional stability after 5000 cycles. The results suggest that this material can be used as a negative electrode material in symmetric supercapacitor devices with ultrahigh energy density.
