A Population-Based Study of Genes Previously Implicated in Breast Cancer

Chunling Hu et al.

Summary: This study provides population-based estimates of the prevalence and risk of breast cancer associated with pathogenic variants in known cancer-predisposition genes. The results highlight the varying levels of risk associated with different genes, such as high risk for BRCA1 and BRCA2 and moderate risk for PALB2, as well as associations with specific subtypes of breast cancer for genes like RAD51C and RAD51D.

Germline genetic testing in breast cancer: Rationale for the testing of all women diagnosed by the age of 60 years and for risk-based testing of those older than 60 years

Neelam Desai et al.

Summary: Genetic testing plays a crucial role in breast cancer management, with recommendations for universal testing from certain American organizations. However, issues such as age criteria have been raised. A Mayo Clinic study suggests that lowering the testing age to 60 can increase PV detection rates while minimizing uncertainties.
