Hard-to-Abate Sectors: The role of industrial carbon capture and storage (CCS) in emission mitigation

Sergey Paltsev et al.

Summary: Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology is an important option for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, particularly in the industrial sector. Utilizing the EPPA model, industrial CCS deployment is found to facilitate emission reductions and enable significant decreases in global energy use and sectoral emissions.

Simultaneous magnesia regeneration and sulfur dioxide generation in magnesium-based flue gas desulfurization process

Hongjing Tian et al.

Summary: A method was proposed to simultaneously regenerate magnesia from the Mg-based flue gas desulfurization byproducts and generate high concentrations of sulfur dioxide. The use of sulfur vapor as a reductive agent effectively reduced the regeneration temperature of magnesia and achieved a high concentration of sulfur dioxide in the exhaust gas. Experimental results showed significant potential for the application of this method in the flue gas desulfurization process.

A comparative Life Cycle Assessment of two sister cruise ferries with Diesel and Liquefied Natural Gas machinery systems

Filippo Cucinotta et al.

Summary: A comparative Life Cycle Assessment was conducted between traditional Diesel machinery and Liquified Natural Gas engines on a cruise ferry, showing that LNG propulsion performs better in terms of climate change. Factors such as lower CO2 emissions and methane slip effect were considered, with implications on energy costs of transport and liquefaction. Further analyses on data uncertainty and sensitivity on fuel consumptions were also carried out.

A study on hydrogen, the clean energy of the future: Hydrogen storage methods

Cevahir Tarhan et al.

Summary: As the demand for energy continues to rise, the search for new energy sources to replace traditional fossil fuels is ongoing. Daily energy needs can be met through the use of renewable energy sources. Globally, there is a gradual reduction in the use of fossil fuels in favor of cleaner energy sources such as hydrogen energy.

Energy-saving strategy for a transport bed flash calcination process applied to magnesite

Ping An et al.

Summary: The TBFC process applied to magnesite optimizes energy-saving strategies by preheating the fed magnesite with high-temperature calciner flue gas and cooling the CCM product using air sent to the calciner. By pre-decomposition of magnesite and staged fuel gas supply, the process achieves an energy efficiency of 66.8%, significantly higher than conventional RF furnaces. Preheating stages have a greater influence on energy saving than cooling stages, with limited effect of residence time above 1 second in the preheaters.
