Extendedtight-bindingquantum chemistry methods

Christoph Bannwarth et al.

Summary: This review discusses a family of atomistic, mostly quantum chemistry based semiempirical methods for describing large molecules in gas and condensed phase. These methods are derived from a density functional perturbation expansion and emphasize parameter availability for almost the entire periodic table, with improvements in atomic orbital basis set and interaction treatments. The methods are consistent with accurate gas phase theoretical reference data and have been extended for electronic spectra and response properties.

Machine learning of free energies in chemical compound space using ensemble representations: Reaching experimental uncertainty for solvation

Jan Weinreich et al.

Summary: The Free energy Machine Learning (FML) model accurately predicts hydration free energies for chemical compounds, with prediction errors decreasing systematically with training set size and reaching experimental uncertainty levels after training on 80% of the FreeSolv database. FML's accuracy is comparable to state-of-the-art physics-based approaches, and it requires molecular dynamics runs to generate input representations for new query compounds. The model showcases usefulness in analyzing solvation free energies and identifying structure-property relationships for a large number of organic molecules.

Automated Construction of Quantum-Classical Hybrid Models

Christoph Brunken et al.

Summary: A protocol for the fully automated construction of quantum mechanical-classical hybrid models has been introduced, extending a previous approach on system-focused atomistic models. The QM/SFAM approach evaluates the QM region based on first principles to accurately describe atomic forces, allowing for high fidelity and complete automation. This method eliminates dependence on pre-existing parameters and enables convenient redefinition of the QM region during molecular exploration through a local reparametrization scheme.
