The superatomic state beyond conventional magic numbers: Ligated metal chalcogenide superatoms

A Magnetic Superatomic Dimer with an Intense Internal Electric Dipole Moment

Summary: The electronic and magnetic properties of ligand-decorated Fe6S8 clusters and fused superatomic dimers were investigated using first-principles density functional theory. It was found that altering the attached ligands can effectively control the redox properties of the Fe6S8 clusters. The resulting superatomic dimer, with a massive dipole moment and large spin magnetic moment, exhibits significant intercluster charge transfer.
