Tenascin-C preserves microglia surveillance and restricts leukocyte and, more specifically, T cell infiltration of the ischemic brain

Daniel Manrique-Castano et al.

Summary: The study shows that TnC deficiency affects the morphology and quantity of microglial cells, reducing their surveillance capabilities and increasing the accumulation of infiltrating leukocytes (especially T cells) in the ischemic brain.

The Role of Tenascin-C in Tissue Injury and Repair After Stroke

Takeshi Okada et al.

Summary: Stroke remains as a common cause of mortality globally, with matricellular protein TNC playing a vital role in promoting neuroinflammation and vascular spasm after stroke onset. Upregulation of TNC is associated with blood-brain barrier disruption, neuronal apoptosis, and cerebral vasospasm. Additionally, elevated TNC levels post-stroke may predict the occurrence of delayed cerebral ischemia in clinical settings.

Different Functions of Recombinantly Expressed Domains of Tenascin-C in Glial Scar Formation

Dunja Bijelic et al.

Summary: The study found that different fragments of TnC can affect astrocyte proliferation and GFAP expression levels after spinal cord injury. These results may explain the delayed reaction of astrocytes and their localization to the injury site border to allow microglia/macrophages to form a lesion core during the initial stages of glial scar formation.

A Gender-Dependent Molecular Switch of Inflammation via MyD88/Estrogen Receptor-Alpha Interaction

Rana El Sabeh et al.

Summary: The study reveals that MyD88 interacts with a methylated form of estrogen receptor-alpha (methER-alpha), which is crucial for inflammatory signaling and cytokine production, and is disrupted by estrogen. There is a clear gender difference in reproductive organs, indicating the role of estrogen in disrupting this complex.
