STAT3-dependent regulation of the electrogenic Na+/HCO3-cotransporter 1 (NBCe1) functional expression in cortical astrocytes

Summary: The research revealed that high extracellular bicarbonate concentration and pH can upregulate NBCe1 protein, surface expression, and activity through activation of astrocytic STAT3 signaling. Inhibition of STAT3 phosphorylation in astrocytes can impair the functional expression of NBCe1. This highlights a novel regulatory mechanism of NBCe1 and the importance of astrocyte reactivity in its regulation.
