Atmospheric fine particulate matter exposure exacerbates atherosclerosis in apolipoprotein E knockout mice by inhibiting autophagy in macrophages via the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway

Qiang Wan et al.

Summary: The study found that PM2.5 accelerates atherosclerosis development by suppressing macrophage autophagy through the activation of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway.

miR-654-5p inhibits autophagy by targeting ATG7 via mTOR signaling in intervertebral disc degeneration

Shanzheng Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that miR-654-5p is significantly upregulated in degenerated NP tissues from patients with IDD, and high expression of miR-654-5p is positively associated with disc degeneration grade. Functional assays demonstrated that miR-654-5p facilitates ECM degradation by increasing the expression levels of MMP-3, MMP-9, and MMP-13, while inhibiting autophagy.

Rapamycin-Loaded Polymeric Nanoparticles as an Advanced Formulation for Macrophage Targeting in Atherosclerosis

Emanuela Fabiola Craparo et al.

Summary: A stable pharmaceutical formulation for rapamycin in dried powder form was prepared, utilizing polymeric nanoparticles as a carrier with high drug loading and entrapment efficiency. The nanoparticles targeted macrophages and were found to be quickly internalized, maintaining drug activity. In vitro studies showed that the nanoparticles achieved comparable effects to free rapamycin in reducing protein levels related to atherosclerotic plaques.

Combined application of rapamycin and atorvastatin improves lipid metabolism in apolipoprotein E-deficient mice with chronic kidney disease

Eun Ju Song et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that RAPA significantly reduces the development of CKD-induced atherosclerosis by regulating the expression of inflammatory cytokines. The co-application of ATV improves lipid metabolism, further attenuating the progression of atherosclerosis.
