Metabolomics analysis reveals the role of oxygen control in the nitrogen limitation induced lipid accumulation in Mortierella alpina

Hengqian Lu et al.

Summary: The study found that under nitrogen limitation, an appropriate oxygen supply promoted the redirection of carbon towards fatty acid synthesis, while a high oxygen supply favored the respiratory process, which led to a decrease in lipid and ARA accumulation.

Investigating the effects of eleven key physicochemical factors on growth and lipid accumulation of Chlorella sp. as a feedstock for biodiesel production

Roya Parichehreh et al.

Summary: This study identified Chlorella sp. PG96 as a potential candidate for biodiesel production through a factorial design screening process. The results showed that high light intensity and temperature were more effective factors for algal growth. Additionally, nitrogen and carbon sources played significant roles in biomass and lipid production.

Sustainable production of microalgae biomass for biofuel and chemicals through recycling of water and nutrient within the biorefinery context: A review

Wasif Farooq

Summary: Commercial-scale production of microalgae biomass for biofuel and biochemicals requires a substantial amount of water and nutrients, but the presence of toxic organic compounds in post-harvest water limits its recyclability. Research is focused on finding effective methods for nutrient recovery to facilitate sustainable microalgae cultivation.

Extracellular carotenoid production and fatty acids profile of Parachlorella kessleri under increased CO2 concentrations

Priscila da Costa Carvalho de Jesus et al.

Summary: Large-scale cultivations of photoautotrophic microorganisms offer a promising and cost-effective alternative for climate change mitigation, especially when combined with the production of high value bioproducts like fatty acids and carotenoids. CO2 enrichment during microalgae cultivation is essential for productivity, with high levels inducing cell stress that leads to increased production of carotenoids. This study found that interruption of CO2 supply during cultivation of Parachlorella kessleri induced a stressful condition that resulted in the release of red pigment, while higher CO2 concentrations favored the production of saturated and mono-unsaturated fatty acids.
