Reference range: Which statistical intervals to use?

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: Reference ranges are powerful tools for analyzing observations in clinical laboratories, aiming to classify atypical observations that may warrant further investigation. Some intervals, such as P prediction intervals, may not be suitable reference ranges as there is a substantial probability they contain less than (100 P)% of the population. In contrast, tolerance intervals designed to contain (100 P)% of the population with a large confidence gamma are more suitable as reference ranges.

A tactile sensor using the acoustic reflection principle for assessing the contact force component in laparoscopic tumor localization

Hiep Hoang Ly et al.

Summary: A tactile sensor utilizing the acoustic reflection principle was developed for gastric tumor detection in minimally invasive surgery. The sensor showed capability to measure normal and shear forces, with shear force being more stable and responsive in tumor localization than normal force. The results suggest that the shear force information of the sensor is more useful for early stage gastric tumor localization in minimally invasive surgery.
