Preclinical models for investigating how bone marrow adipocytes influence bone and hematopoietic cellularity

Ziru Li et al.

Summary: Laboratory mice are a valuable preclinical model for studying common human diseases related to osteopenia or hematopoietic disorders. However, factors such as species, age, sex, skeletal site, and treatment protocol should all be taken into consideration when choosing the appropriate model for future studies.

IRF3 reduces adipose thermogenesis via ISG15-mediated reprogramming of glycolysis

Shuai Yan et al.

Summary: This study showed that the innate immune transcription factor IRF3 can inhibit thermogenic gene expression in adipocytes, potentially by driving ISG15 expression and reducing glycolytic enzyme function. Mice lacking ISG15 exhibited similar characteristics to mice lacking IRF3 in adipocytes, both showing increased energy expenditure and resistance to diet-induced obesity.

The molecular and metabolic program by which white adipocytes adapt to cool physiologic temperatures

Hiroyuki Mori et al.

Summary: The study shows that adipocytes adapt to temperatures below 37 degrees C by increasing lipid metabolism and oxygen consumption, relying more on fatty acids as energy sources instead of glucose. Exposure to cool temperatures activates a shared gene expression program, including the induction of SCD1 expression and monounsaturated lipid levels.

Summary: Using a mouse model with adipocyte-specific loss of Lmna, this study found that under high-fat diet conditions, the mice exhibit characteristics similar to FPLD2, including metabolic dysfunction and adipose tissue loss.
