Based on the turbulent convection model, this study proposes a new energy called turbulent thermal energy to explain the observed mass loss, and introduces a modified criterion on mass loss. The obtained mass-loss rates are tested for RGB and EAGB stars, and the results are consistent with observational data and other semi-empirical formulae based on fundamental stellar parameters.
Based on the turbulent convection model, we propose new energy named turbulent thermal energy to explain the observed mass loss, and correspondingly propose a modified criterion on mass loss. We obtain the mass-loss rates and make a test of the proposal for the RGB and EAGB stars. The results coincide with the observational data, and also agree with the results of some other semi-empirical formulae based on the fundamental stellar parameters.
