Factors affecting the incidence of postoperative periprosthetic fractures following primary and revision hip arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Christos Bissias et al.

Summary: This study identified female gender, rheumatoid arthritis, and revision arthroplasty as major risk factors for the development of FPFs after a HA. Frequent follow-ups should be planned for these patients. Further prospective studies are necessary to clarify all the risk factors contributing to the appearance of FPFs after HA.

Failure to Optimize Before Total Knee Arthroplasty: Which Modifiable Risk Factor is the Most Dangerous?

Nick R. Johnson et al.

Summary: The study found that failure to optimize modifiable risk factors such as body mass index, albumin level, smoking, and diabetes in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty may lead to postoperative infection, readmission, mortality, and general complications. Among these factors, hypoalbuminemia appears to be the strongest predictor of adverse outcomes. Surgeons should pay special attention to preoperative nutritional optimization to improve patient outcomes.
