Chitosan-coated hydroxyapatite and drug-loaded polytrimethylene carbonate/polylactic acid scaffold for enhancing bone regeneration

Jian He et al.

Summary: A chitosan-coated microsphere scaffold was fabricated for bone regeneration, showing excellent biocompatibility and controlled drug release. The incorporation of PLLA, OA-HA, and VH into the scaffold slowed biodegradability while enhancing mechanical and surface properties. CS coating promoted osteoblast adhesion, and the release of OA-HA stimulated osteogenic proliferation.

Development of curcumin-loaded composite phospholipid ethosomes for enhanced skin permeability and vesicle stability

Yu Li et al.

Summary: This study formulated curcumin-loaded ethosomes with different phospholipid compositions and found a significant interaction between unsaturated PC and saturated HPC. The composite phospholipid ethosomes with a PC/HPC ratio of 1:1 showed the best vesicle stability and flexibility, leading to reduced uptake by skin cells and increased transdermal efficiency.

Synergistic effect of curcumin and activated carbon catalyst enhancing hydrogen production from biomass pyrolysis

Teguh Suprianto et al.

Summary: This study explores the synergistic effect of activated carbon and curcumin in the production of hydrogen gas during biomass pyrolysis, showing that their combination can significantly increase hydrogen and methane gas yields. The use of curcumin as an antioxidant and the protective interaction between the aromatic rings of curcumin and activated carbon surface contribute to this enhancement. Simulation software and various tests were conducted to support the experimental results.

Berberine-Coated Biomimetic Composite Microspheres for Simultaneously Hemostatic and Antibacterial Performance

Xiaojian Zhang et al.

Summary: Biomimetic microspheres prepared by spray drying containing alginate/carboxymethylcellulose/gelatin and coated with different berberine proportions showed effectiveness in inducing platelet adhesion/aggregation and promoting hemostasis, with BACG-6B exhibiting superior hemostatic performance and strong antibacterial activity compared to the commercial hemostatic agent CMPHP. These novel biomaterials also demonstrated good hemocompatibility and biocompatibility, suggesting potential for broad applications in the future as a dual-functional (hemostat/antibacterial) biomedical material.
