Bloch surface waves biosensing in the ultraviolet wavelength range - Bragg structure design for investigating protein adsorption by in situ Kretschmann-Raether ellipsometry

Benjamin Kalas et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the design of a Bragg mirror structure with an SiO2 top layer for resonance in the ultraviolet wavelength range, providing enhanced sensitivity for target material absorption. The potential to exceed the sensitivity of plasmon-enhanced measurements is discussed, along with the improvement of the current experimental detection limit.

Nitride-Oxide-Metal Heterostructure with Self-Assembled Core-Shell Nanopillar Arrays: Effect of Ordering on Magneto-Optical Properties

Xuejing Wang et al.

Summary: Magneto-optical coupling technology can be applied in various fields such as ultrafast switching, optical isolators, and data storage components, but integrating plasmonic, magnetic, and dielectric properties in a single material system poses challenges. This study demonstrates a three-phase heterostructure through co-deposition, showing strong magneto-optical activity in vertically aligned gold-shell nickel oxide core nanopillar arrays, providing stronger Kerr rotation antisymmetry.

Magneto-optical surface plasmon resonances on perpendicular magnetic thin films consisting of CoPt/ZnO/Ag stacked nanolayers

Haruki Yamane

Summary: The CoPt/ZnO/Ag stacked nanolayers exhibit an ideal square-shaped out-of-plane magnetic hysteresis loop and a large polar Kerr activity in the polar Kerr excitation geometry. Surface plasmon resonances induce drastic magneto-optical responses with a narrow linewidth and a sharp reversal of the Kerr polarity.

Sensing of Surface and Bulk Refractive Index Using Magnetophotonic Crystal with Hybrid Magneto-Optical Response

Daria Ignatyeva et al.

Summary: An all-dielectric magneto-photonic crystal with hybrid magneto-optical response is proposed for simultaneous measurements of surface and bulk refractive index of a substance. This approach is based on the different spectral features of magneto-optical response corresponding to resonances in incident light polarizations. The study suggests measuring a hybrid magneto-optical intensity modulation of p-polarized light obtained by switching the magnetic field between transverse and polar configurations to capture both surface and bulk-associated features in the magneto-optical spectra.

Vector magneto-optical magnetometer based on resonant all-dielectric gratings with highly anisotropic iron garnet films

Daria O. Ignatyeva et al.

Summary: A magnetometer based on magnetic iron garnet film was proposed, which achieved enhanced magneto-optical response by using a dielectric resonant grating on top of an ultrathin film. This magnetometer can measure all three spatial components of the magnetic field simultaneously with high spatial resolution and sensitivity up to 100 pT Hz(-1/2).

Summary: This study demonstrates a digitally all-dielectric approach for magnetically tunable add/drop of optical channels in dense wavelength division multiplexing applications. The simulation results show high performance add/drop of odd and even optical channels by flipping the intrinsic magnetization of the disk, using CMOS-compatible materials. It is hoped that this proposed structure can be integrated into future ultrafast optical communication networks.

Magneto-optical methods for magnetoplasmonics in noble metal nanostructures

Alessio Gabbani et al.

Summary: The use of magneto-optical techniques to tune the plasmonic response of nanostructures, known as magnetoplasmonics, is a popular topic in active plasmonics. Efforts have been made to design and tailor the magneto-optical response of metal nanostructures by combining plasmonic and magnetic materials or using ferromagnetic materials. Noble metals, despite their weak magneto-optical response, serve as valuable model systems for rationalizing magnetoplasmonic effects, while heavily doped non-magnetic plasmonic semiconductors show great potential for high performance magnetoplasmonics in the infrared range.

High Figure of Merit Magneto-Optical Ce- and Bi-Substituted Terbium Iron Garnet Films Integrated on Si

Takian Fakhrul et al.

Summary: Films of polycrystalline terbium iron garnet (TbIG), cerium-substituted TbIG (CeTbIG), and bismuth-substituted TbIG (BiTbIG) were successfully grown on Si substrates using pulsed laser deposition. The films grow under tensile strain due to thermal mismatch with the Si substrate, leading to a dominant magnetoelastic anisotropy and in-plane magnetization. Substitution of Ce and Bi reduces the compensation temperature of TbIG, resulting in lower optical absorption and high Faraday rotation, particularly in the case of Bi(0.03)TbIG with a high magneto-optical figure of merit at 1550 nm.
