The Neurovascular Unit Dysfunction in Alzheimer's Disease

Luis O. Soto-Rojas et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is the most common neurodegenerative disease worldwide, characterized by neurofibrillary tangles and amyloid beta accumulation. Vascular risk factors may lead to dysregulation of the neurovascular unit, contributing to A beta accumulation and neurodegeneration. Therapeutic approaches targeting abnormal A beta levels have had limited success in improving cognition.

Peripheral Markers of Neurovascular Unit Integrity and Amyloid-beta in the Brains of Menopausal Women

Muthuvel Jayachandran et al.

Summary: This study found an association between specific markers in blood microvesicles, summarized into two principal components, and brain amyloid-beta deposition in menopausal women. This suggests the feasibility of diagnosing and predicting Alzheimer's disease and related dementias at the population level.
