The study showed that by adjusting off-stoichiometry, the properties of LiVO2 could be linearly controlled, including latent heat, transition temperature, and hysteresis. The maximum latent heat of the PCM was reached at the shortest distance where the V-3 trimer was most stable.
Herein, we study the effect of off-stoichiometry on the properties of a phase change material (PCM)-LiVO2-which is a new type of PCM based on the phase change of electron. The PCM properties such as latent heat, transition temperature, and hysteresis of transition temperature varied linearly with respect to the distance of vanadium ions, which was systematically controlled through off-stoichiometry in the composition of LixVO2+delta (0.85 < x < 1.15). The latent heat of the PCM reached a maximum of 300 J/cm(3) at the shortest distance where the V-3 trimer was stable. These findings reveal the potential of LixVO2 as a solid-state PCM with tunable properties. (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
