Nanocrystallization of the cast AZ31 Mg alloy by low-strain rotary swaging

Xin Chen et al.

Summary: Remarkable grain refinement of AZ31 Mg alloy was achieved by low-strain rotary swaging, with nanograins formed in the central region attributed to high strain rates and constantly changing loading directions. The nanocrystallization process in the central region was dominated by tension twinning and the formation of dislocation arrays, while only twins were formed in the edge region due to a single loading direction towards the center.

Effects of hot pressing temperature and annealing temperature on microstructure and compressive properties of a bulk nanocrystalline AZ61 magnesium alloy contain Ti

Huan Yu et al.

Summary: Bulk nanocrystalline magnesium alloy was prepared by mechanical milling and vacuum hot pressing at 723 K, resulting in densified samples with an average grain size of 76 nm. After annealing at 573 K, both strength and ductility were significantly improved. The nanocrystalline magnesium phase together with nano-scale Ti3Al precipitates played a crucial role in achieving ultra-high strength.

Thermal stability of the multicomponent nanocrystalline Ni-ZrNbMoTa alloy

Zhenyu Wang et al.

Summary: A single-phase nanocrystalline Ni-ZrNbMoTa alloy with a grain size of below 10 nm was prepared by 30 h ball milling, showing good thermal stability during high-temperature annealing. The stability of the nanocrystalline alloy at low alloying levels and/or low temperatures is attributed to grain boundary segregation.

Thermodynamics and design of nanocrystalline alloys using grain boundary segregation spectra

Summary: Solute segregation at grain boundaries is crucial for stabilizing nanocrystalline alloys. A spectral approach has been developed to more accurately screen for thermodynamic stability in polycrystalline structures, considering the anisotropic nature of grain boundaries, and the results are generally consistent with experimental observations.
