Feeding frequency affects glucose and lipid metabolism through SIRT1/AMPK pathway in growing pigs with the same amount of daily feed

He Zhang et al.

Summary: This study used a pig model to investigate the effects of feeding frequency on glucose and lipid metabolism and revealed the regulating mechanism through SIRT1/AMPK pathway. The results showed that different feeding frequencies affected liver metabolism pathways, with higher NAD(+)/NADH ratio in the liver of the one-meal group activating SIRT1 and stimulating AMPK signaling associated pathways. Overall, feeding frequency plays a regulating role in glucose and lipid metabolism through the SIRT1/AMPK pathway.

Skeletal muscle and fiber type-specific intramyocellular lipid accumulation in obese mice

Nejc Umek et al.

Summary: In obese mice, there is muscle- and fiber-type specificity in intramyocellular lipid accumulation, with fast- and intermediate-twitch muscles showing prominent lipid accumulation while slow-twitch muscles do not exhibit significant changes. Additionally, there is a shift towards fast-type myosin heavy chain isoform expression in the slow-twitch muscle of obese mice, indicating differential responses to obesity among muscle fiber types.

Quercetin regulates skeletal muscle fiber type switching via adiponectin signaling

Xiaoling Chen et al.

Summary: This study revealed that quercetin can promote skeletal muscle fiber transition from glycolytic type II to oxidative type I by regulating AdipoQ signaling pathway. The supplementation of quercetin increased oxidative fiber-related gene expression and slow-twitch fiber percentage, while decreasing fast-twitch fiber percentage and relevant gene expression. In addition, quercetin also enhanced metabolic enzyme activity in muscle cells.
