This study investigates the motion behaviors of liquid inclusions in a steel-slag two-phase system through water model experiments and numerical models. The deformation details of the liquid inclusions and their interaction with the steel-slag interface are discussed.
Liquid inclusions are as harmful as solid ones to steel properties and need to be removed, too. However, they have been simply treated as rigid spheres, and their deformation property during the process has been ignored for a long time. With the help of water model experiments and numerical models, the phenomena of liquid inclusions' motion behaviors in the steel-slag two-phase system were studied. The water model was built with a water-silicone oil system based on the similarity principle to reveal the mechanism of liquid inclusions. Besides, a phase-field three-phase numerical model was built to simulate liquid inclusion floating in steel and approaching the steel-slag interface. From the model, more deformation details of the liquid inclusion and the steel-slag interface are obtained and discussed. With the help of the two models, the effects of droplet size and physical properties of the three phases on the interface deformation are studied and discussed.
