3-Year Outcomes of Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair in Patients With Heart Failure

Summary: This study demonstrated that among patients with heart failure and mitral regurgitation, transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr) provided effective and sustained reduction in heart failure hospitalizations, mortality, and improved quality of life and functional capacity compared to guideline-directed medical therapy alone through 36 months. Additionally, patients who crossed over to TMVr treatment after 24 months also experienced significant benefits in terms of reduced mortality and heart failure hospitalizations.

Clinical impact of intervention strategies after failed transcatheter mitral valve repair

Summary: This study evaluated the survival outcomes following percutaneous procedures and surgery after unsuccessful TMVR interventions for different aetiologies. It found that reclipping is a suitable treatment option for symptomatic patients with secondary mitral regurgitation, while surgery should be favored for primary mitral regurgitation patients. Patients with atrial fibrillation, prior open heart surgery, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are at higher risk of reduced survival following reinterventions.
