Why people like or dislike large wood in rivers-a representative survey of the general public in Germany

Cedric Mats Gapinski et al.

Summary: The study showed that the majority of German participants believe in the benefits of reintroducing large wood, while some are concerned about its danger, especially for canoeists or during floods. Females, individuals with higher education levels, the youngest and oldest age groups, as well as frequent river visitors, tend to prefer larger quantities of large wood. With the increasing commitment of young people to environmental issues, setting up specific environmental education opportunities for this group along the river may significantly increase acceptance of reintroducing large wood.

Practical applications of ecosystem services in spatial planning: Lessons learned from a systematic literature review

Davide Longato et al.

Summary: This paper systematically reviews how ecosystem service science contributes to spatial planning practices. It finds an increasing trend in studies supporting spatial planning, yet such studies are still scarce. Real-world case studies demonstrate the advantages of integrating ecosystem service knowledge into spatial planning processes, including synthesizing complex information and promoting participation.
