Ultra-broadband selective absorber for near-perfect harvesting of solar energy

Haotuo Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the slow light effect, magnetic polaritons, and other physical model coupling mechanisms in photonic crystals to construct an efficient solar energy absorber. The simulation study showed that the absorber has a high photothermal conversion efficiency of 96.45% in the 0.3-2.5 μm band, which is 11% higher than traditional designs. Increasing the concentration factor allows the absorber to maintain high efficiency even at high temperatures.

Thermally induced tuning of absorption in a Ge2Sb2Te5-based one-dimensional Fibonacci quasicrystal

Arezou Rashidi et al.

Summary: This study investigates tunable absorption features in a symmetrical Fibonacci structure hybridized with a 40 nm-Ge2Sb2Te5 film. By utilizing the phase switching of GST via the thermooptical effect, a tunable absorbing device with high absorption contrast between different phases is achieved, and enhanced absorption in amorphous GST can be realized with appropriate parameters. The structure can be reconfigured from transparent to absorbent, offering promising prospects for designing tunable temperature-assisted GST-based absorbers and optical switching devices.
