TLR4 and CD14 trafficking and its influence on LPS-induced pro-inflammatory signaling

Anna Ciesielska et al.

Summary: This article discusses the role of TLR4 in promoting inflammatory responses, including internalization and intracellular trafficking of exogenous endotoxin and bacteria. The authors emphasize the significant impact of internalization rate and endo-lysosomal compartment transport rate on inflammatory responses.

Multiple action mechanism and in vivo antimicrobial efficacy of antimicrobial peptide Jelleine-I

Fengjing Jia et al.

Summary: The antimicrobial peptide Jelleine-I shows its antimicrobial activity primarily by disrupting the integrity of the cell membrane and targeting genomic DNA to inhibit microbial growth. It exhibits promising therapeutic effects against Escherichia coli-infected peritonitis in mice, with negligible cytotoxicity towards mammalian cells, indicating excellent cell selectivity. These results suggest that Jelleine-I has the potential to be developed as a novel antimicrobial agent.

Anti-Infective and Anti-Inflammatory Mode of Action of Peptide 19-2.5

Lena Heinbockel et al.

Summary: Pep19-2.5 has been described as efficiently combating infection-inducing bacteria by binding and neutralizing their most potent toxins, LPS and LP, independent of bacterial resistance. Its mode of action involves both Coulomb/polar and hydrophobic interactions with the toxins, making it a promising therapeutic option against severe bacterial infections.

Bacterial lipoproteins in sepsis

Kandahalli Venkataranganayaka Abhilasha et al.

Summary: Bacterial lipoproteins, derived from both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, play important roles in host virulence by interacting with host immune cells through TLR2/1 or TLR2/6. It is crucial to consider bacterial lipoproteins in addition to classical bacterial endotoxin when studying bacterial pathogenicity.

Effects of Lipidation on a Proline-Rich Antibacterial Peptide

Federica Armas et al.

Summary: The study tested two different lipidated forms of Bac7(1-16) aimed at extending its activity against bacterial species lacking SbmA. Both lipidated forms showed activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria at low micromolar MIC values. These results suggest that C-terminal lipidation alters the function and mode of action of a short proline-rich peptide, providing insights into the design of broad-spectrum antibacterial agents.
