Summary: Amphiphilic beta-peptides, with their distinct molecular architecture, can self-assemble at membrane interfaces and form stable transmembrane pores, leading to lipid dislocation, membrane thinning, and water leakage. Despite their short architecture, these synthetic peptides stretch themselves inside the membrane to interact with polar headgroups and water layers, demonstrating potent membrane-disruption ability. Importantly, the ability to induce pores is sequence-dependent and not present in non-globally amphiphilic sequence isomers of the same beta-peptide.
