Inkjet Printing of Ag and Polystyrene Nanoparticle Emulsions for the One-Step Fabrication of Hydrophobic Paper-Based Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering Substrates

Natercia C. T. Martins et al.

Summary: This study introduces a general method to fabricate hydrophobic paper-based SERS substrates and optimizes their performance by controlling factors such as the ratio of nanoparticles and the number of printing layers. The selected substrates showed good SERS performance for various analytes, with specific analysis conducted on the pesticide thiram. The one-step fabrication method is suggested to enhance the SERS performance of the paper substrates through nanoscale features of the hydrophobic coating.

Combined Visible Plasmons of Ag Nanoparticles and Infrared Plasmons of Graphene Nanoribbons for High-Performance Surface-Enhanced Raman and Infrared Spectroscopies

Jinpeng Nong et al.

Summary: Ag nanoparticles modified graphene nanoribbons can serve as high-performance shared substrates for surface-enhanced Raman and infrared absorption spectroscopy. By optimizing the dimension of Ag NPs, SERS enhancement factors at the order of 10^5 can be achieved, comparable with or even larger than that of the reported shared substrates. Meanwhile, various polyethylene oxide vibrational modes can be recognized with maximum SEIRAS amplification up to 170 times, one order larger than that of the reported graphene plasmonic infrared sensors. Such plasmonic nanosensor exhibits promising potential for biosensing applications on an integrated lab-on-a-chip strategy.

Highly sensitive multiplex-detection of surface-enhanced Raman scattering via self-assembly arrays of porous AuAg nanoparticles with built-in nanogaps

Puran Pandey et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates highly sensitive multiplex-detection of organic dyes using SERS substrates with self-assembly arrays of porous AuAg alloy (p-AuAg) NPs, showing excellent enhancement, reproducibility, and detection limits. The high-density built-in and inter nanogaps in the self-assembly arrays of p-AuAg NPs contribute to the significant enhancement of electromagnetic field, supporting potential pathways for practical SERS applications.

Improved Surface-Enhanced-Raman Scattering Sensitivity Using Si Nanowires/Silver Nanostructures by a Single Step Metal-Assisted Chemical Etching

Ioannis Kochylas et al.

Summary: In this study, highly sensitive substrates for Surface-Enhanced-Raman-Scattering (SERS) spectroscopy were developed by decorating silicon nanowires (SiNWs) with silver nanostructures using single-step Metal Assisted Chemical Etching (MACE). The substrates showed considerably lower limit of detection (LOD) and better uniformity in SERS activity when decorated with silver aggregates compared to dendritic structures. Enhancement factors ranging from 10^5 to 10^10 were calculated, demonstrating very high SERS sensitivities for analytical applications.
