Generic Structural Relaxation in Supercooled Liquids

Florian Pabst et al.

Summary: Research has shown that the light scattering spectra of different systems almost perfectly overlap, exhibiting a generic line shape of structural relaxation, particularly proportional to omega(-1/2) at high frequencies. In dielectric spectra, the generic behavior is only recovered for systems with low dipole moment.

Dielectric Spectroscopy Based Detection of Specific and Nonspecific Cellular Mechanisms

Michael R. Stoneman et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of the interaction between a GPCR and its agonist ligand on the dielectric properties of the plasma membrane in living yeast cells using radiofrequency dielectric spectroscopy. The results showed a significant increase in plasma membrane permittivity after exposure to the agonist ligand, while cells lacking the ability to express the specific receptor showed no change. Interestingly, the electrical properties of the cellular interior also underwent a large change after the addition of the agonist, regardless of Ste2 expression.

Identity of the local and macroscopic dynamic elastic responses in supercooled 1-propanol

Peter Weigl et al.

Summary: This study compares the local and macroscopic elastic responses of glass-forming liquids, finding that the dynamic macroscopic shear modulus can effectively measure the average local elastic properties. The unexpected result provides constraints for models of dynamical heterogeneities in glass-forming liquids.

Triplet state solvation dynamics: extending the accessible timescale by using indole as local probe

Peter Weigl et al.

Summary: Triplet state solvation dynamics (TSD) is a local measurement technique used to investigate mechanical or dielectric solvation, and has been applied in studying glassy dynamics and confinement effects. By identifying and characterizing new TSD probes, such as indole and cbz-tryptophan, the timescale of measurements has been extended, allowing for in-depth investigations of solvation and dynamics in biologically relevant systems in the future.
