Application of a robust microplate assay to determine induced β-1,3-glucanase and chitinase activity in the cotton plant

Summary: The resistance induced in cotton plants can be determined by evaluating the production of beta-1,3-glucanase and chitinase. The traditional assays for determining beta-1,3-glucanase and chitinase activity are time-consuming and expensive, but a modified microplate assay has proven to be more cost-effective and efficient. The sensitivity of the microplate assay was significantly increased compared to previous methods, providing a robust technique for assessing induced resistance in cotton plants.

The use of plant extracts and resistance inducers together is a safer alternative to chemicals for controlling green and blue mold during storage.
