Experimental and numerical investigations of dynamic strain ageing behaviour in solid solution treated Inconel 718 superalloy

Run-Hua Song et al.

Summary: This paper systematically investigates the dynamic strain aging (DSA) effect in solid solution treated IN718 at different temperatures through experiments and simulations, proposing a rate-dependent constitutive formulation combined with the DSA model. The study finds that the inhomogeneity of equivalent plastic strain rate distribution in the specimen gauge length may be closely correlated to stress serrations during inelastic deformation.

Constitutive modeling of bond breaking and healing kinetics of physical Polyampholyte (PA) gel

Sairam Pamulaparthi Venkata et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional finite strain nonlinear viscoelastic model is developed to study the mechanical behavior of a physically cross-linked Polyampholyte (PA) gel. The time dependent behavior of this gel is due to the ionic interactions of oppositely charged monomers. The model connects the strain dependent bond breaking and reforming kinetics in the microscopic regime to the deformation of the gel at the continuum level.

Fatigue on shape memory alloys: Experimental observations and constitutive modeling

Vanderson M. Dornelas et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the fatigue behavior of shape memory alloys using experimental and theoretical approaches. A three-dimensional constitutive model is proposed to describe the general thermomechanical behavior of these alloys, including functional and structural fatigue, with successful fatigue life predictions.

A constitutive model of the dynamic shear modulus dependence on temperature, prestrain, dynamic strain amplitude and magnetic field for magneto-sensitive elastomer

Jonas Lejon et al.

Summary: A constitutive model for the dynamic shear modulus of magneto-sensitive elastomer is developed, considering temperature, prestrain, dynamic strain amplitude, and magnetic field dependence. Various functions and models are used to represent the dependencies, and after parameter identification, the model shows good agreement with experimental results, enabling accurate prediction of material performance under different conditions.

Summary: Cellulose nanopaper, endowed with excellent mechanical properties, can achieve strengthening and toughening by adjusting nanofiber size and increasing hydrogen bond density. This study quantitatively understands its outstanding performance through a multiscale model and proposes a scaling relation related to microstructure parameters.

Finite element simulation of the Portevin-Le Chatelier effect in highly reinforced metal matrix composites

Matthieu Maziere et al.

Summary: The study investigates the Portevin-Le Chatelier effect in an AlCu/Al2O3 composite with a high volume fraction of ceramic particles, revealing serrations and propagation of localized plasticity bands even at 60% volume fraction. The finite element model successfully reproduces these phenomena and allows for detailed analysis of the spatio-temporal evolution of localized plastic strain rate bands. Virtual generation and comparison of different volume fractions outlines the influence of the second phase on the Portevin-Le Chatelier effect.
