Electroosmotic flow: From microfluidics to nanofluidics

Amer Alizadeh et al.

Summary: Electroosmotic flow, a significant phenomenon in electrokinetic transport at the micro/nanoscale, has been widely adopted for fluid pumping applications due to its ability to efficiently pump liquids without mechanical parts. Understanding the role of the ionically polarized layer and the characteristic length scale of the conducting media is crucial in comprehending the electrokinetic pumping mechanism.

A surface charge governed nanofluidic diode based on a single polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) nanochannel

Jun Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel nanofluidic diode design was presented by controlling the surface charges and sizes of single PDMS nanochannels through surface modification using polyelectrolytes. The developed nanofluidic diode showed high effective current rectification performance, achieving a rectification ratio as high as 218. The rectification ratio decreases with high voltage frequency and ionic concentration, while it increases in shorter nanochannels.
