Improved covariance matching-electrical equivalent modeling for accurate internal state characterization of packing lithium-ion batteries

Shunli Wang et al.

Summary: The study introduced a novel covariance matching-electrical equivalent circuit modeling method with an improved adaptive weighting factor correction and differential Kalman filtering model for characterizing the adaptive working state of lithium-ion batteries. Experimental tests showed good response of the method to battery state changes, leading to improved estimation accuracy.

Life Cycle Assessment of an NMC Battery for Application to Electric Light-Duty Commercial Vehicles and Comparison with a Sodium-Nickel-Chloride Battery

Antonella Accardo et al.

Summary: The study found that the NMC111 battery has the highest environmental impacts during the production stage, with active cathode material, Aluminium, Copper, and energy use for battery production being the main contributors. However, during vehicle operation, the NMC111-BEV showed lower environmental impacts compared to the ZEBRA-BEV. Electric powertrains outperform diesel ones in terms of global warming, abiotic depletion potential-fossil fuels, photochemical oxidation, and ozone layer depletion, but diesel vehicles perform better in most other impact categories.

Deployment of electric vehicles in China to meet the carbon neutral target by 2060: Provincial disparities in energy systems, CO2 emissions, and cost effectiveness

Runsen Zhang et al.

Summary: This study developed a transport energy model to investigate the penetration trend of electric vehicles (EVs) in different provinces in China and their impacts on energy consumption and emissions. The results indicated that subsidies for EV adoption would significantly boost market share, especially in developed provinces, while northeastern and northwestern regions showed lower economic feasibility and emission reduction potential, requiring more financial assistance for EV promotion.

Towards more flexibility and transparency in life cycle inventories for Lithium-ion batteries

Eleonora Crenna et al.

Summary: Electric vehicles are gaining significant market share globally as one of the most promising solutions to address the growing concerns related to climate change and environmental pollution. However, the evaluation of environmental impacts of Lithium-ion batteries (LIB) is difficult and uncertain due to poor availability of data at the commercial production scale and diversity in modelling choices. Creating flexible and transparent life cycle inventories (LCI) of LIB through a modular approach is crucial for modeling new generations of LIB and driving the transportation sector towards electro-mobility.

Temporal environmental and economic performance of electric vehicle and conventional vehicle: A comparative study on their US operations

Fan Yang et al.

Summary: This study uses a mathematical model to evaluate the economic and environmental benefits of EVs compared to ICEVs over a 10-year operation phase, finding that EV energy consumption increases over time, affecting the potential GHG emissions reduction and cost savings from replacing ICEVs. At the state level, some areas may experience negative environmental and economic impacts from adopting EVs during the operation phase after considering battery replacement.
