Analysis of the Illicit Opioid U-48800 and Related Compounds by LC-MS-MS and Case Series of Fatalities Involving U-48800

These substances are suspected to be potential new opioids in illicit drug markets. The method involves solid-phase extraction of drugs from human whole blood and analysis using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

Obtaining appropriate analytical testing specimens is important for surveillance and public health interventions.

Blood concentrations of synthetic cathinones

Summary: This study analyzed the concentrations of synthetic cathinones in biological materials and found a range of concentrations in both fatal and non-fatal cases involving 47 synthetic cathinones. The conclusions on cause of death should be based on concentrations and clinical knowledge, with postmortem blood concentrations >1 mu g/mL cautiously considered as lethal concentrations in cases of suspected synthetic cathinones-related deaths, although exact ranges cannot be established.

Summary: A ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry method was developed and validated for quantification of 4-fluoroisobutyryl fentanyl (4-FiBF) in postmortem biological samples in four fatal intoxication cases in Poland. The study revealed the highest concentration of 4-FiBF in bile and liver, along with the presence of other drugs and new psychoactive substances in the samples. This is the first report to detail the distribution study of 4-FiBF with other NPS in authentic fatal intoxication cases.
