Remarkable visible-light induced hydrogen generation with ZnIn2S4 microspheres/CuInS2 quantum dots photocatalytic system

Onur Cavdar et al.

Summary: A new and active material, ZnIn2S4 microspheres decorated with CuInS2 quantum dots, was successfully synthesized using a hydrothermal method for the first time. The introduction of an optimum amount of CuInS2 quantum dots significantly increased the photocatalytic H-2 generation rate under visible light irradiation, showing strong photoactivity and high apparent quantum efficiency in the extended visible range.

Efficacious CO2 Photoconversion to C2 and C3 Hydrocarbons on Upright SnS-SnS2 Heterojunction Nanosheet Frameworks

Chun-Yuan Wu et al.

Summary: The SnS-SnS2 heterostructured nanosheet framework demonstrates promising photocatalytic activity for converting CO2 and water to C2 and C3 hydrocarbons. The enhanced photocatalytic performance is attributed to the increased fraction of crystalline SnS in nanosheets through partial transformation of SnS2, allowing for efficient CO2 conversion catalysis with low activation energy. The Z-scheme charge transfer dynamic in the SnS-SnS2 heterostructured nanosheet framework enhances not only charge separation efficiency but also catalytic activity for CO2 conversion.

Enhancing the photocatalytic hydrogen production of the ZnO-TiO2 heterojunction by supporting nanoscale Au islands

David Ramirez-Ortega et al.

Summary: Loading Au on the ZnO-TiO2 heterojunction enhanced its photocatalytic hydrogen production ability, with the maximum hydrogen production rate observed at 2-wt.% Au content. This improvement is associated with the synergistic interaction between the ZnO-TiO2 heterojunction and Au islands.

Facile synthesis of SnS2@g-C3N4 composites as high performance anodes for lithium ion batteries

Ha Tran Huu et al.

Summary: This study successfully applied a solid state reaction to synthesize SnS2@g-C3N4 composites, comprising SnS2 nanosheets dispersed in a porous g-C3N4 matrix. The significant improvement in specific capacity, rated performance, and cycling behavior of the composites was attributed to the buffering effect of the large-surface-area g-C3N4 matrix and the pseudocapacitive effect. Enhanced mobility of charge carriers was achieved through the high exfoliation of SnS2 nanosheets, the high porosity of the composites, and the formation of heterointerfaces between SnS2 and g-C3N4 semiconductors, generating an internal electric field that accelerated the migration of electrons and lithium ions.

Water splitting and carbon dioxide reduction over alkaline-earth tantalate photocatalysts loaded with metal oxide cocatalysts

Luis F. Garay-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: Calcium and strontium tantalates synthesized by solid-state synthesis were evaluated for photocatalytic water splitting and CO2 reduction, showing competitive yields for H-2 and O-2. The Sr2Ta2O7 sample exhibited better performance due to its crystalline structure and morphology. Co3O4 and CuO particles as cocatalysts enhanced product evolution by efficient charges transport, with Co3O4 proving to be the most efficient. CuO favored CO formation in the tantalate materials, but the water-splitting process remained predominant with both cocatalysts.

Fengyan Li et al.

Summary: The preparation of hollow Cu2MoS4/ZnIn2S4 heterostructural nanocubes with intimate-contact interface via a self-template way has significantly improved photocatalytic efficiency. The study shows that the enhanced photocatalytic performance is mainly attributed to the abundant active sites and increased light absorption provided by the hollow structure, as well as the built-in electric field facilitating charge separation.

Efficient piezocatalytic removal of BPA and Cr(VI) with SnS2/CNFs membrane by harvesting vibration energy

Wenrou Tian et al.

Summary: In this study, a piezoelectric membrane of carbon nanofibers coated by fewlayers SnS2 nanosheets was successfully utilized for the high-efficiency piezocatalytic degradation of Cr(VI) and BPA. The enhanced catalytic efficiency under ultrasonication was attributed to the built-in electric field and band bending effects, as well as the outstanding electronic liquidity of the materials. It was found that the most oxidizing .OH could be generated in SnS2/CNFs, contributing to the efficient degradation of BPA.
