How gas flow design can influence the performance of a DBD plasma reactor for dry reforming of methane

Y. Uytdenhouwen et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel DBD plasma reactor design and investigates factors such as the shape and size of the reaction zone, gradual gas addition, and gas mixing on the conversion rate and product composition of DRM. It is found that the choice of main gas, gas flow direction, and gas inlet position significantly impact conversion rate and energy cost.

Ultracompact methane steam reforming reactor based on microwaves susceptible structured catalysts for distributed hydrogen production

Eugenio Meloni et al.

Summary: Hydrogen as a green energy source can be produced through methane steam reforming, but traditional methods have limitations in terms of efficiency and cost. Microwave heating could overcome these limitations by efficiently transferring heat to the catalyst, resulting in faster reactions and higher energy efficiency. Initial tests showed promising results, with the system reaching high temperatures and methane conversion rates close to thermodynamic equilibrium values. Future studies will focus on optimizing the microwave reactor to further increase energy efficiency and improve CH4 conversion rates for enhanced hydrogen production.

Influence of hydrogen addition on methane coupling in a moderate pressure microwave plasma

M. Wnukowski et al.

Summary: The study showed that adding hydrogen can increase methane conversion, acetylene and ethylene yield and selectivity in a microwave moderate pressure plasma reactor. It was also found to decrease the output of problematic soot-like products. This indicates that hydrogen addition is a simple yet effective method for enhancing selectivity in plasma reforming of methane.

Designing perovskite catalysts for controlled active-site exsolution in the microwave dry reforming of methane

Chris M. Marin et al.

Summary: The dry reforming of methane (DRM) is a promising process for generating syngas while consuming CO2, but industrial applications have been limited due to the high temperatures required to prevent coke formation. Microwave-assisted DRM (MW-DRM) is a promising approach that can utilize excess renewable electrons to rapidly and selectively heat the catalyst bed. Catalyst doping studies have shown that the addition of oxophilic transition metals prevents over-reduction and stabilizes the perovskitic phases under reaction conditions.

Effects of membrane selectivity and configuration on methane purity and recovery from high carbon dioxide content natural gas

Li Chin Law et al.

Summary: High selectivity membranes may not always effectively enrich methane from natural gas with high CO2 content, while membranes with higher selectivity can achieve better results. It is essential to choose the appropriate type of membrane based on specific configurations for optimal methane enrichment from high CO2 content natural gas.
