Hydrogen storage capacities of alkali and alkaline-earth metal atoms on SiC monolayer: A first-principles study

Lucia G. Arellano et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that alkali and alkaline-earth metal atom-decorated silicon carbide monolayers have potential for hydrogen storage, with single-sided decoration capable of storing six H-2 molecules, and double-sided decoration capable of storing ten H-2 molecules.

Summary: The main step towards creating a carbon-neutral society is the implementation of renewable energy sources to replace fossil fuels; while hydrogen technology is recognized as the most promising choice, its large-scale implementation is still in progress. In the coming decades, we can expect the utilization of hydrogen's vast ecological potential.

Ab initio study of hydrogen storage on metal-decorated GeC monolayers

Lucia Guadalupe Arellano et al.

Summary: Bidimensional nanostructures have been proposed as hydrogen-storage systems due to their large surface-to-volume ratios. The adsorption of H-2 molecules on Germanium carbide monolayers (GeC-MLs) decorated with alkali metal (AM) and alkaline earth metal (AEM) adatoms was investigated, showing that AM adatoms improved the H-2 adsorption while AEM adatoms presented negligible adsorption energies. Potassium-decorated GeC-ML exhibited the most optimal H-2 storage capacity, adsorbing up to six molecules with lower possibility of forming metal clusters.

Monolayer SnC as anode material for Na ion batteries

Mehwish Khalid Butt et al.

Summary: The study investigates the potential application of two-dimensional SnC monolayer as an efficient anode material for sodium ion batteries. The electronic structure of SnC exhibits a transition from semiconductor to semi-metallic behavior with the insertion of small amounts of sodium ions. The low open circuit voltage and theoretical capacity, along with a low diffusion barrier, suggest that SnC monolayer could be a promising candidate for SIBs.

Gas adsorption enhancement on transition-metal-decorated tin carbide monolayers

Summary: The study shows that adding TM atoms to 2DSnC significantly improves the molecule adsorption energy. Copper adatom has the largest molecule adsorption-energy enhancement, followed by gold and silver. Additionally, NO is strongly bound to TM-2DSnC, and O-2 can spontaneously dissociate when interacting with gold adatom.
