On the local evaluation of the hydrogen susceptibility of cold-formed and heat treated advanced high strength steel (AHSS) sheets

A. Drexler et al.

Summary: The microstructural effects on hydrogen embrittlement resistance were investigated by studying the complex phase steel and dual phase steel. Experimental and modeling studies revealed a significant influence of microstructure on hydrogen embrittlement performance.

Hydrogen Desorption Behavior Trapped in Various Microstructures of High-Strength Steels Using Thermal Desorption Analysis

Kei Saito et al.

Summary: The study investigated the relationship between microstructures and hydrogen trapping states in different steels through thermal desorption analysis. The results showed that hydrogen in CD-P and HC-M existed as both Peak 1H and Peak 2H, while in MC-M it was only found in Peak 1H. Furthermore, the hydrogen release behavior indicated that Peak 1H for all three types of steel was diffusible.

Impact of skin effect of hydrogen charging on the Choo-Lee plot for cylindrical samples

V. A. Polyanskiy et al.

Summary: The study focused on investigating the influence of the skin effect when charging metal samples with hydrogen on thermal desorption spectra (TDS). Analytical and numerical methods were used in FEM modeling to identify the causes of errors in determining the binding energies of hydrogen, with the findings showing the appearance of an extra peak on the TDS due to the skin effect. The study also revealed a dependence of activation energy or hydrogen binding energy calculations on the range of temperature rates in which the TDS experiment was carried out.

Local hydrogen accumulation after cold forming and heat treatment in punched advanced high strength steel sheets

A. Drexler et al.

Summary: Hydrogen embrittlement is a critical issue in the application of advanced high strength steel sheets, especially in severe plastic deformation at punched edges. By investigating two industrial AHSS, it was found that hydrogen accumulates in the shear affected zone, leading to the development of a simplified two-zone model to estimate local hydrogen concentration in punched AHSS sheets.

Hydrogen segregation near a crack tip in nickel

A. Drexler et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of severe elastic straining of interstitial lattice sites in front of a crack tip in nickel, which significantly affects hydrogen segregation in the first atomic layers. The hydrogen distribution in the process zone is found to be strongly inhomogeneous with full occupation of free surface sites and volumetric strained sites.
