Molybdenum carbide nanoparticles assembling in diverse heteroatoms doped carbon matrix as efficient hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts in acidic and alkaline medium

Shifan Wu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the synthesis of ultrafine molybdenum carbide nanocrystals assembling in a boron, nitrogen co-doped carbon matrix using a bottom-up strategy, enhancing the dispersibility and active sites for hydrogen evolution reaction. Compared to monoheteroatom modification, the B and N simultaneously modified catalyst is shown to be versatile in catalyzing HER in both acidic and alkaline electrolytes. N-doping facilitates proton capturing in acid while B-doping assists water adsorption and dissociation in alkali.
