Synthesis and characterization of a novel poly (vinyl alcohol)-based zinc oxide (PVA-ZnO) composite proton exchange membrane for DMFC

Diyan Ul Imaan et al.

Summary: Electrolyte polymeric membranes with zinc oxide nanoparticles embedded in a PVA matrix were synthesized for DMFC applications, showing good thermal and chemical stability, as well as comparable ionic conductivity and exchange capacity to Nafion membranes. Characterization revealed structural interaction, crystalline nature, surface morphology, and thermal stability of the membranes, with mechanical stability also confirmed. This study demonstrates the feasibility of a low-cost proton exchange membrane for DMFC applications.

A real-time PMP energy management strategy for fuel cell hybrid buses based on driving segment feature recognition

Xiaoxiao Sun et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an optimal energy distribution solution for a fuel cell hybrid bus using the PMP algorithm, addressing issues with inaccurate motor power estimation and real-time application. Experimental results show that the proposed strategy reduces hydrogen consumption by 20.3% to 28.9% compared to rule-based methods, with excellent real-time performance.

Multi-objective optimization of hybrid PEMFC/Li-ion battery propulsion systems for small and medium size ferries

D. Pivetta et al.

Summary: The study focuses on optimizing the design and operation of hybrid powertrains for small-size passenger ferries by simultaneously minimizing fuel cell degradation, capital and operating expenditure, while constraining battery degradation. The multi-objective optimization can reduce fuel cell degradation by up to 65%, but may require an increase in battery capacity by up to 136%.

Semi-interpenetrating polymer networks of poly (vinyl alcohol)-functionalized nanocrystals/sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (PVA-FNCs/SPEEK) as fuel cell membrane

Rajender Singh Malik et al.

Summary: Proton conducting membranes of PVA-FNCs/SPEEK were synthesized by solution casting, exhibiting good proton conductivity and enhanced fuel cell performance. The addition of SPEEK and the crosslinking of PVA-FNCs were found to be key factors affecting the properties of the membranes. The semi-interpenetrating network membranes showed promising potential for applications in fuel cell technology.
