Adenosine triphosphate@graphene oxide proton channels for proton exchange membranes constructed via electrostatic layer-by-layer deposition

Hang Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, bioinspired proton conducting channels are designed by immobilizing adenosine triphosphate (ATP) on graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets to form ordered ATP@GO laminates in Nafion. The composite membrane exhibits low methanol permeability and high proton conductivity, leading to enhanced performance of direct methanol fuel cells. The proposed ATP channel strategy serves as a reference for developing high-performance PEMs for fuel cells.

The Preparation of Metal-Organic-Framework/Boron Phosphate Hybrid Materials for Improved Performances in Proton Exchange Membranes

Fuqiang Hu et al.

Summary: New metal-organic framework based hybrid materials were designed and prepared by hybridizing boron phosphate with HKUST-1 precursor, leading to improved properties in proton exchange membranes. The effective interactions between hybrid materials and polymer matrix resulted in enhanced mechanical and thermal stability, as well as proton conductivity. These findings suggest promising application potential in modification of proton exchange membranes.

Electrospun multi-scale nanofiber network: hierarchical proton-conducting channels in Nafion composite proton exchange membranes

Meng Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a unique multi-scale nanofiber membrane prepared by electrospinning with the addition of tetrabutylammonium chloride (TBAC) was successfully applied as effective conductive fillers in Nafion membranes for proton exchange. The multi-scale nanofiber composite membranes showed improved proton conductivity and reduced methanol permeability, attributed to the hierarchical long-range channels for proton conducting and the hindrance of methanol penetration provided by the cross-linked nanofiber network. Additionally, the formation of effective acid-base pairs in the composite membrane facilitated proton hopping and enhanced proton conducting behavior.
